In Islamic tradition, Muhammad meets Moses in the sixth heaven during the Mi'raj.
The Mi'raj is the heavenly ascent associated with Muhammad's miraculous Night Journey, known in Arabic as al-Isra wa al-Mi'raj. Islamic reports describe Muhammad traveling from Mecca to Jerusalem and then ascending through the heavens. At each level, he encounters earlier prophets, including Adam, Jesus, Joseph, Idris, Aaron, Moses, and Abraham.
Moses is placed in the sixth heaven in widely transmitted hadith accounts, while Abraham is encountered in the seventh. During the ascent, Muhammad receives the command that Muslims should perform fifty daily prayers. After Moses advises him to ask for a reduction, the number is reduced to five, while the reward is described as equivalent to fifty.
The Mi'raj is not the same as the Isra, which refers specifically to the night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem. The two episodes are commonly discussed together as one miraculous event.
