In investing history, which investor is widely known as the “Oracle of Omaha”?
Answer
Warren Buffett
Answer
Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett is the investor widely known as the “Oracle of Omaha.”
Buffett built his reputation by leading Berkshire Hathaway, a diversified holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. He is associated with value investing: seeking shares of strong businesses whose market prices appear below estimates of their underlying worth.
Buffett studied under Benjamin Graham at Columbia Business School and later worked in Graham’s investment partnership. In 1965, he acquired control of Berkshire Hathaway, which was then a struggling textile manufacturer, and transformed it into an investment and operating company.
The nickname refers both to Buffett’s investment success and to Omaha, his longtime home. Charlie Munger was Buffett’s business partner for decades, but “Oracle of Omaha” specifically refers to Buffett. Buffett also became known for Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting, often called “Woodstock for Capitalists.”
