The Vikings compete in Dragon Racing in How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Dragon Racing is a fast-paced competition in which riders fly through an arena while attempting to capture and carry sheep through scoring hoops. The sport shows how dramatically life on Berk has changed since the first film: dragons are no longer treated only as dangerous invaders, but as companions, transport, and teammates.
The sequence appears early in the film and introduces the older versions of Hiccup, Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, and the other young Vikings. It also provides a lively demonstration of their flying skills and the different abilities of their dragons.
Dragon Racing should not be confused with a formal sport from the original books or with the broader dragon-riding adventures in the television series. In the film, it is specifically a recreational contest organized by the Vikings of Berk.
