In House M.D., who played Gregory House throughout the series?
Answer
Hugh Laurie
Answer
Hugh Laurie
Hugh Laurie played Gregory House throughout House M.D. Laurie is an English actor who made House one of television’s best-known medical-drama protagonists.
The role required Laurie to portray House as a brilliant diagnostician with a damaged leg, dependence on pain medication, and a famously abrasive personality. Although Laurie was British, he performed House’s American accent for the series, which helped make the character convincing to international audiences.
House M.D. premiered in 2004 and ran for eight seasons. Laurie received multiple major award nominations for the performance and won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series—Drama. The character was loosely inspired by Sherlock Holmes, including the surname “House,” his deductive approach, and his friendship with James Wilson.
Laurie also worked as a musician and writer before and after the show. He later appeared in series including The Night Manager and Avenue 5. Robert Sean Leonard played Wilson, while Omar Epps played Eric Foreman; neither portrayed House.
