Lisa Cuddy is the hospital administrator and dean of medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro in House M.D.
Cuddy supervises the hospital’s medical staff and repeatedly confronts House over his rule-breaking, risky treatments, and disregard for institutional policy. She also protects his diagnostic department because his results can save patients, creating an ongoing conflict between administrative responsibility and clinical brilliance. Her authority makes her one of the few people able to impose consequences on House.
The character is played by Lisa Edelstein. Cuddy is sometimes confused with House’s former partner Stacy Warner, who is an attorney and medical-hospital administrator but not Princeton-Plainsboro’s dean during the main period of the series. Cuddy’s professional role also differs from Wilson’s position as head of oncology. Her relationship with House develops beyond workplace conflict, but her defining title remains dean of medicine and hospital administrator.
