In House M.D., who created the medical drama and served as its showrunner?
Answer
David Shore
Answer
David Shore
David Shore created House M.D. and served as its showrunner during the series. He developed the central character, the diagnostic format, and the show’s long-running dramatic framework.
Shore had previously worked as a writer and producer on television series including Due South, Law & Order, and The Practice. House M.D. became his signature creation after Fox premiered it in 2004.
The series was inspired in part by the idea of applying detective-story logic to medical diagnosis. Gregory House’s name and methods also echo Sherlock Holmes, including the emphasis on observation, deduction, and solving apparently impossible cases. The resemblance is thematic rather than a direct adaptation of a Sherlock Holmes story.
David Shore is sometimes confused with Bryan Singer, who directed the pilot and was an executive producer, or Hugh Laurie, who played House. Shore’s role was behind the story and production structure, while Laurie was the lead performer.
