In House M.D., who created the medical drama about Dr. Gregory House?

The story behind the answer

David Shore created House M.D., the medical drama centered on Dr. Gregory House.

Shore developed the series for Fox with executive producers Katie Jacobs and David Foster. The show premiered in 2004 and follows House, a brilliant but misanthropic diagnostician, as he leads a team at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey.

The series was inspired partly by medical diagnostic columns and by the idea of making diagnosis itself the central mystery. House’s character also drew comparisons with Sherlock Holmes: both are highly observant, unconventional investigators who use deduction to solve difficult cases.

David Shore remained closely associated with the show throughout its run. He wrote or co-wrote many episodes and served as an important creative force even as the cast and diagnostic teams changed. House M.D. ended after eight seasons in 2012.
