In House M.D., which fictional character is Dr. House’s boss for much of the series?

The story behind the answer

Lisa Cuddy is Dr. House’s boss for much of House M.D.

Cuddy is the dean of medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Her responsibilities include managing the institution, supervising physicians, and frequently confronting House over his rule-breaking, risk-taking, and treatment of colleagues.

Lisa Edelstein played Cuddy from the pilot through season seven. The character’s professional authority creates a recurring tension with House’s diagnostic independence, while their complicated personal relationship adds another layer to the series. Cuddy should not be confused with Allison Cameron, who is a member of House’s diagnostic team, or Stacy Warner, House’s former partner and a hospital attorney.
