In House M.D., which doctor becomes the hospital’s dean of medicine after Lisa Cuddy leaves?

The story behind the answer

In House M.D., Eric Foreman becomes the hospital’s dean of medicine after Lisa Cuddy leaves.

Foreman is a neurologist who joined House’s original diagnostic team and remained one of the show’s central doctors. Omar Epps played the character throughout the series. Foreman is intelligent, ambitious, and more cautious about hospital rules than House, although his experience working with House influences his own leadership style.

After Cuddy’s departure at the end of season 7, Foreman takes on greater administrative responsibility and becomes dean of medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro. His promotion reflects both his medical competence and his long history with the hospital.

The answer can be confused with Wilson because Wilson is House’s closest friend and head of oncology, or with Robert Chase, who later leads the diagnostic department. Foreman’s administrative promotion is separate from House’s role as head of Diagnostic Medicine and from Chase’s later clinical leadership.
