Jesse Spencer portrays Dr. Robert Chase in House M.D.
Chase is an Australian intensive-care specialist who joins Gregory House’s original diagnostic fellowship team at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. The character is introduced as a talented but sometimes overly cautious physician whose medical background differs from House’s own diagnostic approach.
Spencer, an Australian actor, was already well known in his home country for television work before joining the American medical drama. House M.D. helped establish him internationally, and he remained a regular cast member through the series. Chase eventually develops from a junior team member into a senior physician and later becomes head of the Diagnostic Medicine department.
A common mix-up is confusing Spencer with Omar Epps, who played Dr. Eric Foreman, or with Peter Jacobson, who played Dr. Chris Taub. Chase’s first name is Robert, although he is usually called Chase throughout the series.
