Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” was used as the main theme of House M.D.
The song opens with a distinctive harpsichord-like figure and Elizabeth Fraser’s vocals. Its atmospheric sound became closely associated with the show’s opening sequence, which presents medical imagery, anatomical graphics, and cast credits around Gregory House’s silhouette.
“Teardrop” was released by the English electronic group Massive Attack in 1998, years before House premiered. The track appeared on the group’s album Mezzanine and became one of its best-known songs. Its mood suited the series’ blend of scientific mystery, emotional distance, and underlying vulnerability.
The theme is sometimes confused with other Massive Attack songs because the band’s catalog contains several dark, atmospheric tracks. In addition, international broadcasts and some later versions of the opening used alternative music arrangements or edits, but “Teardrop” is the canonical association with the original title sequence.
