In House M.D., Jesse Spencer played Dr. Robert Chase.
Chase is an Australian intensivist who becomes one of Gregory House’s original diagnostic fellows at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. He is introduced as part of House’s first diagnostic team, alongside Eric Foreman and Allison Cameron. The character’s background, medical judgment, and changing relationship with House develop across the series.
Jesse Spencer was born in Melbourne, Australia, and had already become known in his home country through the soap opera Neighbours. House M.D. helped establish him internationally, and he later became a principal cast member of Chicago Fire, where he played firefighter Matthew Casey.
Chase is sometimes confused with the actor’s later Chicago Fire character because both roles are strongly associated with Spencer. In House M.D., however, Chase is the doctor’s surname, while Robert is his first name. The character eventually becomes a senior figure in the hospital’s diagnostic work.
