Lisa Cuddy is House's hospital administrator and former boss in House M.D.
Cuddy is played by Lisa Edelstein and serves for much of the series as dean of medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. She values House's diagnostic brilliance but must also manage his rule-breaking, patient complaints, staffing issues, and the hospital's financial and legal pressures.
Cuddy and House have a complicated professional relationship that develops into a romantic relationship during the series. Their history predates the main events: Cuddy knew House before his medical career fully settled into its later form, and she understands both his talent and his self-destructive tendencies.
The character is sometimes confused with Stacy Warner, House's former partner, or with Dr. Amber Volakis, a member of a later diagnostic competition. Cuddy is distinct from both: she is the hospital's senior administrator and House's institutional superior for most of the show's early and middle seasons.
