Lisa Cuddy is Dr. House’s boss for most of House M.D.
Cuddy, played by Lisa Edelstein, is the Dean of Medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. She supervises House and must balance his exceptional diagnostic results against his rule-breaking, rudeness, medication use, and disregard for hospital procedures.
Her position makes her both an authority figure and a major personal presence in House’s life. Many episodes center on Cuddy’s attempts to discipline, protect, or manage him while preserving the hospital’s reputation and resources. Their relationship develops beyond workplace conflict and becomes one of the show’s important long-running storylines.
Cuddy leaves the series at the end of season seven, so she is not House’s boss throughout every episode. That distinction matters because other administrators and doctors take on greater authority in the final season. Lisa Edelstein’s portrayal made Cuddy one of the best-known medical administrators in modern television drama.
