Lisa Cuddy is Dr. House’s boss and the dean of medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro in House, M.D.
Cuddy is played by Lisa Edelstein. As dean of medicine and hospital administrator, she supervises House, controls departmental resources, and repeatedly attempts to limit his dangerous or unconventional behavior. At the same time, she recognizes his diagnostic value and often protects his position when his results justify the risks he takes.
Cuddy and House have a complicated professional and personal relationship. Their arguments frequently involve hospital policy, patient safety, budgets, and House’s disregard for authority. The series later develops romantic tension between them, making their workplace conflict even more personal.
Cuddy is sometimes mistaken for House’s direct clinical teammate, but she is an administrator rather than a member of his diagnostic fellows. She leaves Princeton-Plainsboro near the end of the seventh season after major personal and professional upheaval.
