In House M.D., how many seasons were produced for the television series?

The story behind the answer

House M.D. ran for eight seasons.

The medical drama premiered on Fox in November 2004 and concluded in May 2012. Across those eight seasons, the series followed Gregory House, his diagnostic teams, and the changing professional and personal relationships at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

The season structure reflects several major changes in the show. House's original diagnostic fellows eventually moved into other roles, new team members arrived, and the hospital's leadership changed. The series also expanded its focus beyond individual medical puzzles to include addiction, institutional rules, friendship, and the consequences of House's choices.

Eight seasons is sometimes confused with the number of years the program was on the air. The show occupied parts of eight television seasons, but its broadcast period stretched from 2004 to 2012. Its final episode, “Everybody Dies,” aired on May 21, 2012, closing the story after the eighth season rather than beginning a ninth.
