In Hong Kong, the New Year's Eve edition of A Symphony of Lights is staged over which harbor?

The story behind the answer

In Hong Kong, the New Year's Eve edition of A Symphony of Lights is staged over Victoria Harbour.

Victoria Harbour separates Hong Kong Island from the Kowloon Peninsula and is the city’s best-known waterfront setting. The annual countdown uses the harbour as a vast stage, with illuminated buildings, lasers, searchlights, projections, music, and—when scheduled—fireworks visible from both shores and from boats.

A Symphony of Lights itself began on January 17, 2004, as a nightly multimedia show organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Its regular presentation takes place at 8 p.m. and features participating buildings on both sides of the harbour. The New Year's Eve program is a special event rather than simply the ordinary nightly performance.

The other options are famous waterfront locations, but they belong to different cities: Waitematā Harbour is in Auckland, Marina Bay is in Singapore, and Sydney Harbour is in Australia. Hong Kong’s defining harbour for this celebration is Victoria Harbour.
