In Hesiod’s Pandora story, which god delivered Pandora to Epimetheus?

The story behind the answer

In Hesiod’s Pandora story, Hermes delivered Pandora to Epimetheus. Hermes was the Greek god associated with messengers, travel, boundaries, commerce, and communication, making him the deity who escorts Pandora into the human world.

Hesiod’s account presents Pandora as a coordinated creation of the gods after Zeus decided to punish humanity. Different deities contribute different qualities, and Hermes gives Pandora a deceptive mind and a lying tongue before bringing her to Epimetheus. This role is separate from the goddess who teaches her crafts and the god who shapes her physical form.

Modern summaries sometimes compress all of Pandora’s divine gifts into a single act by Zeus. In the ancient story, however, several gods participate, and Hermes has a specifically named role. Hermes is also distinct from the Roman Mercury, although the two gods were later identified with each other in Greco-Roman tradition.
