In Hesiod’s Pandora myth, which Titan is Pandora’s brother-in-law?

The story behind the answer

In Hesiod’s Pandora myth, Prometheus is Pandora’s brother-in-law.

Pandora marries Epimetheus, and Prometheus is Epimetheus’s brother. That family relationship makes Prometheus Pandora’s brother-in-law in the myth’s genealogical structure. It also connects her directly to the Titan who stole fire for humanity.

The relationship matters because Prometheus and Epimetheus react differently to Zeus’s gift. Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought, warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus. Epimetheus accepts Pandora anyway, and the later opening of the container brings troubles to humankind.

Some retellings describe Pandora as connected to Prometheus because of the fire episode, but they are not spouses. Pandora’s husband is Epimetheus; Prometheus is his brother. This distinction resolves one of the most common family-relationship mix-ups in summaries of the myth.
