In Hesiod’s Pandora myth, which brother of Prometheus accepted Pandora?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus accepted Pandora in Hesiod’s account of the myth.

Epimetheus is one of the Titan brothers associated with Prometheus. Their names are often interpreted as contrasting kinds of thought: Prometheus suggests forethought, while Epimetheus suggests afterthought. This contrast helps explain their different responses to Zeus’s gift.

Prometheus had warned Epimetheus not to accept anything from Zeus. Epimetheus nevertheless took Pandora into his household. In the later course of the story, Pandora opened the container and released the troubles that had been kept inside it.

Epimetheus is also associated with Pandora as her husband in the myth. Their story is distinct from later accounts that connect Pandora with other figures or give her additional family details. The name Epimetheus is sometimes confused with Prometheus because both brothers belong to the Titan generation and appear together in myths about humanity.
