Prometheus brought fire to humans before Pandora was created.
Prometheus is a Titan associated with forethought and with helping humanity. In Hesiod’s account, he steals fire for humans after a conflict with Zeus over sacrificial portions. Zeus then devises Pandora as part of humanity’s punishment, linking the two myths directly.
The fire episode is one of the most famous parts of Prometheus’s story, but its details differ among ancient authors. Hesiod emphasizes deception and punishment, while later writers, especially Aeschylus, develop Prometheus as a powerful benefactor who gives humans several arts and forms of knowledge.
Prometheus is often confused with other Titans, such as Atlas or Cronus. Atlas is associated with bearing the sky, while Cronus is an older ruler of the Titans. Neither is the fire-bringer in the Pandora narrative.
