In Hesiod’s myth of Pandora, which Titan received Pandora as his wife?

The story behind the answer

In Hesiod’s myth of Pandora, Epimetheus received Pandora as his wife.

Epimetheus was a Titan associated with hindsight and was the brother of Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus after Prometheus had stolen fire for humanity. Although Prometheus warned his brother not to accept gifts from Zeus, Epimetheus welcomed Pandora.

The marriage begins the part of the story in which Pandora opens the sealed storage vessel and releases hardships into the human world. Hesiod’s account does not present Epimetheus as an active participant in opening the vessel; Pandora is the person who opens it. A common mix-up is to identify Prometheus as Pandora’s husband because Prometheus is more prominent in the surrounding myth. In classical Greek mythology, however, Prometheus and Pandora belong to the same story without being married to each other.
