In Hesiod’s Greek myth, which goddess taught Pandora practical skills such as weaving?

The story behind the answer

In Hesiod’s Greek myth, Athena taught Pandora practical skills such as weaving.

Pandora’s creation was presented as a collective divine project ordered by Zeus. After Hephaestus shaped her from earth, Athena is described as teaching her crafts and dressing her in fine clothing. Weaving was especially significant in ancient Greek culture, where it was associated with household production, status, and female virtue.

Athena’s contribution does not mean that she created Pandora’s personality or sent her to Epimetheus. Hesiod assigns different functions to different gods: Hephaestus makes the body, Athena provides instruction and clothing, Aphrodite contributes beauty, and Hermes contributes deceptive speech or character. Later retellings frequently simplify the myth, so Athena’s specific role can be overlooked.
