In Greek mythology’s Pandora story, Prometheus was Pandora’s husband’s brother.
Pandora is associated with Epimetheus, whose name is often understood in relation to thinking afterward or hindsight. Prometheus and Epimetheus are brothers in Greek myth and belong to the older Titan generation. Prometheus is famous for helping humanity and stealing fire, while Epimetheus accepts Pandora despite Prometheus’s warning.
This family connection is important because it links the jar episode directly to the fire-theft story. Zeus’s punishment reaches humanity through Pandora and Epimetheus, while Prometheus suffers a separate punishment for his own defiance.
Different translations and retellings vary on whether Pandora is called Epimetheus’s wife, companion, or bride. The brother relationship between Epimetheus and Prometheus, however, is the stable mythological link that makes Prometheus Pandora’s brother-in-law in common retellings.
