Prometheus steals fire from Mount Olympus and gives it to humanity. Zeus treats this act as a serious challenge to divine authority, and Pandora’s creation follows as part of the punishment imposed on humans.
Fire represents more than warmth in the myth. It enables cooking, metalworking, tools, and organized human technology, so its transfer helps explain humanity’s growing abilities. Prometheus’s theft therefore benefits people while provoking Zeus’s retaliation.
The Pandora episode is closely linked to the fire story but is not identical to it. Prometheus is punished directly, while humans receive Pandora and the troubles released from her container. Ancient versions differ in some details, but fire is the central gift associated with Prometheus.
