In Greek mythology, whom does Pandora marry after Zeus has her created?
Answer
Epimetheus
Answer
Epimetheus
In Greek mythology, Pandora marries Epimetheus after Zeus has her created.
Epimetheus is a Titan associated with hindsight and is the brother of Prometheus, whose name is commonly interpreted in relation to forethought. Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept a gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus ignores the warning when Pandora arrives.
The marriage places Pandora inside the family drama surrounding humanity’s possession of fire. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora’s arrival and the opening of her container lead to the release of evils into the human world, while hope remains inside.
Epimetheus is sometimes confused with Prometheus because both appear in the same myth cycle. Prometheus is the figure punished for helping humanity, whereas Epimetheus is Pandora’s husband. In later traditions, Pandora and Epimetheus are also associated with Pyrrha, who becomes important in Greek flood mythology.
