In Greek mythology, whom did Pandora marry or join after Zeus sent her to Earth?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Pandora married or joined Epimetheus after Zeus sent her to Earth.

Epimetheus was the Titan associated with hindsight and was the brother of Prometheus, whose name is linked with foresight. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus as part of the punishment connected with Prometheus’s theft of fire from the gods.

Prometheus had warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus welcomed Pandora. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora later opened the container she had brought, releasing troubles into the human world. The myth thus links the couple directly to the origin of mortal suffering.

A common mix-up identifies Prometheus as Pandora’s husband because he is the better-known figure in the surrounding story. Prometheus is instead her brother-in-law and the target of Zeus’s punishment; Epimetheus is the figure who receives Pandora.
