In Greek mythology, whom did Pandora marry after Zeus sent her into the human world?

The story behind the answer

Pandora married Epimetheus after Zeus sent her into the human world in the Greek myth.

Epimetheus was a Titan associated with hindsight and afterthought. His name is commonly contrasted with his brother Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora when she arrived.

In Hesiod’s account, the marriage places Pandora in the household where the container is kept. She eventually opens it, releasing the forces that bring suffering to human life. The narrative therefore links the myth’s catastrophe to Epimetheus’s failure to heed his brother’s warning as well as to Pandora’s action.

Later mythological traditions connect Pandora and Epimetheus with Pyrrha, who becomes important in the flood story of Deucalion. That genealogy is not the central focus of Hesiod’s original container episode, so modern retellings sometimes combine separate traditions.
