In Greek mythology, who was the father of Pyrrha, Pandora’s daughter?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus was the father of Pyrrha, Pandora’s daughter. Epimetheus was Pandora’s husband and the brother of Prometheus.

The mythological family relationship connects two major stories. Epimetheus accepts Pandora despite Prometheus’s warning, and their daughter Pyrrha later becomes the wife of Deucalion. Deucalion is Prometheus’s son, so the flood story joins the families of the two Titan brothers.

Epimetheus’s name is commonly explained as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with “forethought.” This contrast is reflected in the story: Prometheus anticipates danger, while Epimetheus accepts Zeus’s gift and understands the consequences later.

Different ancient and later sources vary in genealogical detail, but the standard mythological tradition identifies Epimetheus as Pyrrha’s father. He is not the same figure as Prometheus, even though both are Titans and brothers.
