In Greek mythology, Pandora’s husband in the story of the container of evils was Epimetheus.
Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus. His name is often explained as meaning “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus, despite Prometheus’s warning that he should accept no gift from Zeus.
Epimetheus accepted Pandora, and she became connected with the release of troubles into human life. The myth is not a simple account of a woman acting alone: Hesiod frames the event as part of Zeus’s punishment and includes the decisions of both the gods and Epimetheus. Later retellings frequently omit the brothers’ contrasting names and roles.
