In Greek mythology, Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law through her marriage to Epimetheus. Prometheus and Epimetheus were brothers, and Pandora was sent to Epimetheus after Zeus arranged her creation.
The family connection is important because the myth is framed as a consequence of Prometheus’s actions. Prometheus had obtained fire for humanity, angering Zeus. Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus welcomed Pandora despite that advice.
Pandora’s relationship to Prometheus is sometimes misstated because he is more prominent in the earlier part of the story. Prometheus is not Pandora’s husband; Hesiod identifies Epimetheus as her companion. Prometheus is instead the brother of Epimetheus and the figure whose theft of fire triggers Zeus’s retaliation.
