Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law and the figure who stole fire for humanity.
Prometheus was a Titan associated with forethought and with helping humans. In Hesiod’s version of the myth, he tricked Zeus during a sacrificial division and later stole fire for mortals. Zeus punished him, and Pandora’s creation followed as part of the punishment affecting humanity.
Prometheus was Pandora’s brother because he was the brother of Epimetheus, the man who married her. This relationship places the Pandora story within the larger Prometheus cycle rather than treating it as an isolated tale.
The fire episode has had enormous influence beyond ancient Greek religion. Prometheus became a symbol of rebellion, creativity, scientific ambition, and the risks of defying authority. Pandora’s story, by contrast, became associated with unintended consequences and the release of hidden dangers.
