In Greek mythology, who was Pandora’s brother-in-law and humanity’s champion against Zeus?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law and humanity’s champion against Zeus.

Prometheus was a Titan who opposed Zeus’s treatment of mortals. In the best-known version of his fire myth, he stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, an act that brought severe punishment. His brother Epimetheus later became Pandora’s husband.

The Pandora story and the Prometheus story are connected through Zeus’s response to Prometheus. After the theft of fire, Zeus arranged for Pandora to be created and sent to Epimetheus. The myth therefore places Pandora within the larger conflict between Zeus, Prometheus, and humankind.

Prometheus is sometimes mistakenly named as Pandora’s husband because he is the more famous male figure in the story. The family relationship is clear in the traditional account: Prometheus and Epimetheus are brothers, so Prometheus is Pandora’s brother-in-law.
