In Greek mythology, who is Pandora’s daughter and the mother of the renewed human race after the flood?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Pandora’s daughter and the mother of the renewed human race after the flood is Pyrrha.

Pyrrha is traditionally described as the daughter of Pandora and Epimetheus. She marries Deucalion, the son of Prometheus, and the pair survive a catastrophic flood sent by Zeus. After the flood, an oracle instructs them to throw the “bones of their mother” behind them. They understand this as a reference to stones from Mother Earth, and the stones become people.

This flood episode appears in later Greek mythological tradition, especially in accounts associated with the Roman poet Ovid. It is connected to, but distinct from, Hesiod’s account of Pandora and the container. Hesiod’s surviving poems do not provide the complete flood narrative in the same form. Pyrrha is therefore a useful link between the Pandora story and the Greek flood myth, while Deucalion is her partner and the male ancestor of the renewed population.
