In Greek mythology, Pandora’s brother-in-law and humanity’s famous fire-bringer is Prometheus.
Prometheus is a Titan who is often portrayed as a benefactor of humanity. In a well-known myth, he steals fire from the gods and gives it to mortals, enabling craft, technology, and civilization. Zeus punishes him severely for this defiance.
Prometheus is also Pandora’s connection to the divine conflict behind the jar story. Pandora is sent to his brother Epimetheus as part of Zeus’s response to Prometheus’s actions. Prometheus recognizes the danger and advises Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus.
The fire-bringer and Pandora episodes are related in Hesiod’s treatment of divine punishment, though later traditions expand and rearrange the details. Prometheus is not Pandora’s husband: that role belongs to Epimetheus, whose name is often contrasted with his brother’s foresight.
