In Greek mythology, who created Pandora from clay or earth?
Answer
Hephaestus
Answer
Hephaestus
In Greek mythology, Hephaestus created Pandora from earth at Zeus’s command.
Hesiod’s *Theogony* describes Zeus ordering Hephaestus, the divine smith and craftsman, to shape a woman from earth. Other gods then contributed qualities or gifts to her. This makes Pandora a coordinated divine creation rather than the work of one god alone.
Prometheus is sometimes incorrectly named as Pandora’s creator because he is strongly connected with the creation of humanity and the theft of fire. In the Pandora story, however, Prometheus is chiefly associated with opposing Zeus, while his brother Epimetheus receives Pandora.
Hephaestus’s role also fits his wider mythology: he is the Olympian deity linked with metalworking, fire, craftsmanship, and divine manufacture.
