In Greek mythology, who became Pandora’s husband after Prometheus warned his brother against accepting gifts from Zeus?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus became Pandora’s husband after Prometheus warned him against accepting gifts from Zeus.

Epimetheus was the brother of Prometheus and belonged to the Titan generation. His name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus as part of a punishment directed at humanity after Prometheus stole fire for people.

Prometheus had advised Epimetheus not to accept anything from Zeus, but Epimetheus ignored the warning when Pandora arrived. They married, and Pandora later opened the sealed vessel that released troubles into the world. The myth therefore presents Epimetheus as someone who understands the consequences only after an action has taken place.

Epimetheus is sometimes mistaken for Prometheus because both brothers appear in the same myth cycle. Prometheus is the fire-bringer and planner; Epimetheus is Pandora’s husband in Hesiod’s narrative.
