In Greek mythology, Pandora’s creation is directly connected with Zeus’s punishment of Prometheus.
Prometheus is the Titan associated with helping humanity, especially by stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humans. In Hesiod’s account, Zeus responds by arranging the creation of Pandora, making her part of a broader punishment directed at humanity and Prometheus.
The myth connects several events: Prometheus deceives Zeus over sacrificial portions, steals fire, and is punished; Zeus then orders the creation of Pandora. Pandora’s jar releases troubles into human life, giving the story an explanation for why suffering exists.
Atlas and Cronus are also Titans, but neither is the Titan whose punishment leads directly to Pandora’s creation in Hesiod’s narrative. Prometheus is the essential figure linking the fire story and the Pandora story.
