In Greek mythology, which Titan’s brother received Pandora as his bride?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus received Pandora as his bride. He was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus, whose theft of fire had triggered Zeus’s punishment.

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus ignored the warning and welcomed Pandora. Hesiod’s story uses the brothers’ names symbolically: Prometheus means “forethought,” while Epimetheus means “afterthought.”

That contrast helps explain their behavior. Prometheus is presented as cautious and anticipatory, whereas Epimetheus recognizes the danger only after the consequences appear. Pandora’s arrival therefore becomes part of the myth’s contrast between planning ahead and learning too late.

Epimetheus is not the same Titan as Atlas, who was condemned to bear the heavens, or Cronus, the older Titan ruler. In the Pandora story, Epimetheus’s acceptance of Zeus’s gift places him at the center of the vessel’s later opening.
