In Greek mythology, which Titan’s brother married Pandora?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus married Pandora.

Epimetheus was a Titan associated with hindsight, contrasting with his brother Prometheus, whose name is linked with forethought. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus after Pandora had been created and equipped with gifts from the gods. Although Prometheus had advised his brother to reject gifts from Zeus, Epimetheus accepted Pandora.

The marriage places Pandora within the wider conflict between Zeus and Prometheus. Prometheus had challenged Zeus by helping humanity, most famously through the theft of fire in a related myth. Pandora’s arrival formed part of Zeus’s punishment and introduced suffering into the human world.

Readers sometimes answer Prometheus because he is the best-known male figure in the story. However, Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law, not her husband. Epimetheus’s name and role also help explain the myth’s wordplay: his “afterthought” is shown by accepting what his more cautious brother rejected.
