In Greek mythology, Iapetus was Pandora’s father-in-law through his son Epimetheus.
Iapetus is one of the twelve Titans in Greek mythology and is described as the father of Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Menoetius. Because Epimetheus marries Pandora in Hesiod’s account, Iapetus occupies the genealogical position of Pandora’s father-in-law.
This relationship is a secondary detail rather than the central focus of the Pandora story. The main narrative concerns Zeus, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and the release of human troubles. Iapetus belongs to the wider family structure of the Titan generation and helps connect Pandora’s story to the myths of the Titanomachy and the punishment of Prometheus.
Genealogies can vary across Greek mythic sources, but Iapetus’s role as father of Prometheus and Epimetheus is a standard part of the Hesiodic tradition.
