In Greek mythology, Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law and the giver of fire to humanity.
Prometheus was a Titan who supported humans in several myths. The best-known version says that he stole fire from the gods and gave it to mortals, enabling technology, cooking, craft, and civilization. Zeus punished him for this act, and the creation of Pandora followed as part of the divine retaliation described by Hesiod.
Prometheus was also Epimetheus’s brother. Since Pandora married Epimetheus, Prometheus became her brother-in-law within the mythic family relationships. Hesiod’s story emphasizes the contrast between the brothers: Prometheus is cautious and forward-thinking, while Epimetheus accepts Pandora despite the warning.
Prometheus is not Pandora’s husband, and he is not the craftsman who modeled her. Those details are frequent sources of confusion when several Greek myths are summarized together.
