Prometheus is the Titan linked to Pandora through the punishment following his theft of fire.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus is famous for taking fire and giving it to humanity. Zeus punishes Prometheus for this act, and the creation of Pandora becomes a related punishment directed at humans. The two stories are therefore connected even though Prometheus does not create Pandora or open the vessel.
Prometheus is often described as a benefactor of humanity because fire represents technology, craft, cooking, and civilization. His defiance also makes him a major symbol of resistance to divine authority. Pandora’s arrival provides the corresponding mythic explanation for why human life includes suffering after receiving the benefits associated with fire.
A common mix-up is identifying Atlas, another famous Titan, as the figure connected with Pandora. Atlas is best known for bearing the sky as punishment. Prometheus’s defining connection here is the theft of fire and the punishment that follows it.
