In Greek mythology, Prometheus gave fire to humanity before Zeus sent Pandora.
Prometheus is a Titan who appears in Greek myth as a benefactor of humankind. In the best-known version, he steals fire from Mount Olympus and brings it to humans, enabling technology, cooking, craft, and civilization. Zeus punishes him by binding him to a mountain, where an eagle repeatedly eats his liver.
The Pandora story is presented as part of Zeus's response to this act. Zeus orders the creation of Pandora and sends her to Prometheus's brother, Epimetheus. Prometheus's warning to Epimetheus is then ignored, leading to the opening of the container and the release of human troubles.
The fire episode and Pandora episode are therefore connected, but they are not the same myth. Prometheus did not open the vessel, and he was not Pandora's husband. Those roles belong to Pandora and Epimetheus respectively.
