In Greek mythology, which Titan created humans before Pandora appeared?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Prometheus is the Titan credited in later tradition with creating humans before Pandora appeared.

Prometheus is one of the best-known Titans, although ancient sources do not tell one completely consistent version of his role. In a major later tradition, he shaped humanity from clay and then stole fire from the gods for human use. Zeus punished him severely, while also arranging Pandora’s creation as punishment connected with the theft.

Hesiod’s account focuses on Prometheus’s conflict with Zeus rather than presenting a detailed creation scene. The clay-making story became especially influential through later Greek and Roman writers and visual artists.

Prometheus should not be confused with Epimetheus, his brother. Their names create a deliberate contrast: Prometheus represents thinking ahead, while Epimetheus represents understanding after an event. That contrast explains why Epimetheus accepts Pandora despite Prometheus’s warning.
