In Greek mythology, which Titan created humans and stole fire for them?
Answer
Prometheus
Answer
Prometheus
In Greek mythology, Prometheus is the Titan credited with creating humans in some traditions and stealing fire for them. His name is closely associated with foresight, and his intelligence makes him a major cultural hero in Greek myth.
Hesiod’s account links Prometheus directly to the story of Pandora. After Prometheus deceived Zeus during a sacrifice, Zeus withheld fire from humanity. Prometheus then stole fire and returned it to humans, provoking Zeus to punish both him and humanity. Zeus’s punishment of humans involved sending Pandora, while Prometheus himself was chained to a mountain.
Not every ancient source gives exactly the same account of human creation. The myth of Prometheus shaping humans from clay became especially influential in later Greek and Roman literature and art. The fire episode, however, is one of his most enduring characteristics.
Prometheus is often confused with Epimetheus because the two are brothers and both appear in the Pandora story. Their names provide a contrast: Prometheus acts with foresight, whereas Epimetheus understands events only afterward. That contrast is central to the myth’s moral structure.
