In Greek mythology, which man became Pandora’s husband?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus became Pandora’s husband. His name is usually interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with his brother Prometheus, whose name means “forethought.”

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept any gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus nevertheless welcomed Pandora. This decision is central to the myth because Pandora arrived carrying the container that would release troubles into the human world. In Hesiod’s story, Pandora’s arrival is connected with Zeus’s response to Prometheus’s theft of fire.

Epimetheus and Pandora are sometimes treated as the first human couple in later summaries, although ancient Greek mythology contains several different traditions about humanity’s origins. Pandora is also linked to a daughter named Pyrrha in later genealogical accounts. Pyrrha and Deucalion, rather than Pandora and Epimetheus, are the couple associated with surviving the flood in the best-known Greek flood myth.
