In Greek mythology, Telamon was the father of the giant warrior Ajax.
Telamon was a Greek hero and king of Salamis. His son Ajax, often called Ajax the Great, was one of the most formidable Greek fighters at Troy. The father-son connection places Ajax in a heroic family that predates the Trojan expedition.
Telamon was also associated with Heracles and took part in earlier adventures, including the campaign against Troy led by Heracles. In myth, that earlier Troy was ruled by Laomedon, Priam’s father. Telamon’s earlier generation therefore connects two different attacks on the city.
Ajax is sometimes confused with Ajax the Lesser, another Greek commander in the Trojan War. Ajax the Great was Telamon’s son, while Ajax the Lesser was the son of Oileus.
