Athena taught Pandora women’s traditional crafts after she was created in Hesiod’s account.
Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, and skilled crafts. In Works and Days, she teaches Pandora crafts associated with women, contributing to the set of divine gifts that shape her identity.
Pandora’s creation is shared among several gods. Hephaestus forms her from earth, Athena provides instruction, Aphrodite gives beauty and desire, and Hermes contributes deceptive qualities. The sequence presents Pandora as a constructed figure whose attributes come from the divine community.
This detail is easy to confuse with Athena’s broader role as patron of weaving and craftsmanship. The myth does not say Athena created Pandora’s body; that task belongs to Hephaestus. It also does not make Athena Pandora’s mother. Athena’s role is specifically connected with teaching and skill.
