In Greek mythology, Athena taught Pandora skills associated with weaving and handicrafts.
Hesiod’s description of Pandora’s creation distributes her qualities among several gods. Athena, the goddess strongly associated with wisdom, crafts, and skilled work, gives Pandora instruction in weaving. Other divine figures contribute different attributes, helping create a figure whose appearance and abilities are deliberately assembled by the gods.
This detail is sometimes lost in short retellings that focus only on the opened vessel. Pandora is not portrayed merely as an accidental curiosity figure in Hesiod: her formation is a coordinated divine project. Athena’s role also connects the myth with ancient Greek ideas about textile production, a highly important domestic and economic skill.
